Hello! I’m Anisha Kotecha, a London based yoga instructor. I weave science and spirituality together to provide wellbeing and harmony to my clients. I specialise in teaching Yoga and Yoga Therapy for a variety of Mental Health conditions and I’m highly skilled in applying focused techniques in an accessible manner, to benefit all. I hold a degree in Biology and remain curious about the workings of the human body. I am deeply connected to my Indian background and this is embedded in my teaching style and practise, as I approach my work from a holistic point of view, rooted in Yogic and spiritual philosophy.
I am passionate about mental health awareness, international development and climate change, which I have focused on for the majority of my career in the charity sector. My interests and hobbies include reading (particularly spirituality and philosophy), travelling, fashion, art, volunteering and social justice, wellness, The Lord of the Rings, exploring museums and eating good food (both cooking and tasting restaurant menus)! Last but not least, I love my yoga practise - it is deeply embedded into my life, both on and off the mat.

Why Yoga is important to me.
I was living the hectic London lifestyle, when I suddenly contracted sepsis a few years ago and found myself in a near death situation. I vividly remember being in floods of tears in the intensive care unit, constantly asking myself “Will I be ever be able to practise yoga again?”.
For weeks, I was mentally and physically debilitated, relying on others to take care of my basic needs. I could not recognise the person standing before me in the mirror - I began to speak to myself unkindly and couldn’t envisage myself returning back to ‘normal’ any time soon.
Eventually, things began to improve as I started counselling and physiotherapy. The first time I went for a walk outside was a challenge, my legs were trembling and I was short on breath, but I was determined to do it! I promised myself that I would keep working hard on my recovery and be back on my yoga mat in no time.
When I made it back to my yoga studio, I noticed that I wasn’t able to access many of the poses in the same way that I used to be able to. I experienced muscular tension and lower back pain throughout the class and I couldn’t stop mentally comparing myself to other attendees.
Concurrently, I also had other post-sepsis complications. I found myself feeling dizzy often and I ended up collapsing publicly on more than one occasion. This in turn heightened my anxiety - my confidence was shattered.
It took a long time, but I kept up my yoga practise with patience and decided to have more faith in my journey and my ability to innately heal. Before I knew it, I eventually got back into the rhythm of being at my yoga studio nearly every day. I noticed that my anxiety and stress symptoms were greatly alleviated and more manageable.
I began to cultivate acceptance for my body and recovery journey, I spoke more kindly to myself and my confidence had returned. My lower back pain and muscular tension had disappeared - my body was stronger and it felt amazing to feel healthy and truly alive!
Consequently, I decided to apply for my yoga teacher training. I hold a degree in Biology so it felt like a natural next step - I've always been fascinated by the human body and health. All I knew is that I desperately wanted to help others struggling with mental and physical conditions by sharing the teachings of yoga… and so I find myself here today, as a passionate yoga teacher who loves teaching, is forever learning and always curious!
It is my dedicated practise that helps to keep me grounded and balanced throughout the waves of life. I have a deep respect for the art and I strongly feel that it is not only my duty, but my calling to share the power of yoga with others. I feel incredibly lucky to be able to teach!
